Installation Guide

Tools Needed:

  • Manifold gauge set
  • Vacuum pump
  • Leak detector
  • Torque wrench set
  • Flaring tool kit
  • Multimeter
  • Refrigerant scale
  • Tubing cutter

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Site Preparation: Select appropriate location with proper clearances, solid mounting surface, and adequate ventilation.
  2. Mounting Unit: Securely mount indoor and outdoor units using proper brackets and vibration isolators.
  3. Refrigerant Line Installation: Install copper refrigerant lines with proper insulation, ensuring no kinks or sharp bends.
  4. Electrical Connections: Connect to dedicated circuit with proper voltage (208-230V) and install disconnect switch within sight of unit.
  5. Drain Line Installation: Install condensate drain line with proper slope (1/4" per foot) and trap where required.
  6. Vacuum and Charge: Evacuate system to 500 microns, hold for 30 minutes, then charge with specified refrigerant amount.
  7. System Testing: Test operation in cooling and heating modes, check pressures, temperatures, and verify proper drainage.
  8. Final Inspection: Verify all connections, test safety controls, and document refrigerant charge and pressures.
Warning: Only EPA certified technicians should handle refrigerant. Follow all local codes and manufacturer specifications.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Unit not cooling Low refrigerant, dirty coils, compressor failure, capacitor issues Check charge, clean coils, test compressor and capacitors
Compressor not starting Bad capacitor, faulty contactor, overload trip, wiring issue Test start components, check voltage at compressor, verify wiring
Freezing evaporator coil Low airflow, low refrigerant, dirty filter, fan motor issue Check filter, measure airflow, verify charge, test blower motor
High head pressure Dirty condenser, overcharge, non-condensables, fan issues Clean condenser, recover and weigh charge, check condenser fan
Short cycling Overcharge, dirty filter, faulty thermostat, pressure switch Check charge, clean filter, calibrate thermostat, test pressure controls
Water leakage Clogged drain, improper slope, broken drain pan, frozen coil Clear drain line, check slope, inspect drain pan, check for ice
Unusual noises Loose parts, bad bearings, refrigerant migration, rubbing fan Tighten all fasteners, check motor bearings, verify proper operation
Poor airflow Dirty filter, blocked registers, failing blower motor, duct issues Replace filter, check registers, test blower, inspect ductwork
