Residential Split System

Installation Guide

Tools Needed:

  • Refrigeration manifold gauge set
  • Vacuum pump
  • Tubing cutter and bender
  • Torque wrench set
  • Multimeter
  • Leak detector
  • Level

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Site Selection: Choose a location for outdoor unit with proper clearance (minimum 24" on all sides) on a solid, level concrete pad.
  2. Indoor Unit Placement: Install indoor evaporator unit in central location with proper drainage slope and air circulation.
  3. Refrigerant Line Installation: Run insulated copper lines between indoor and outdoor units with proper bends (minimum radius 4x tube diameter).
  4. Electrical Connections: Connect to dedicated 230V, 60Hz circuit with proper disconnect switch and circuit breaker protection.
  5. Drain Line Installation: Install condensate drain line with proper slope (1/4" per foot) and trap near indoor unit.
  6. Vacuum and Charge: Evacuate system to 500 microns minimum, then charge with specified refrigerant amount.
  7. System Startup: Perform complete system startup procedure including airflow measurement and refrigerant superheat/subcooling check.
Warning: Installation must be performed by EPA-certified HVAC technicians only. Improper installation may void warranty and create safety hazards.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Unit not cooling Power issue, thermostat setting, refrigerant leak Check circuit breaker, verify thermostat settings, check for leaks
Poor cooling performance Dirty filters, low refrigerant, restricted airflow Clean/replace filters, check refrigerant charge, clear obstructions
Unit cycles on/off frequently Dirty coils, incorrect charge, oversized unit Clean coils, verify proper charge, check sizing calculations
Water leakage Clogged drain line, improper slope, frozen coil Clear drain line, ensure proper slope, check airflow
Unusual noises Loose parts, debris in fan, bearing wear Tighten all fasteners, clear debris, check motor bearings
High energy consumption Dirty filters, low refrigerant, duct leaks Clean filters, check charge, seal ductwork

Error Codes

  • E1: Communication error - Check wiring between indoor and outdoor units
